How do I choose a roofer in Philadelphia?
Look for a registered PA Home Improvement Contractor, a written workmanship warranty, a long record of recent reviews, and real experience with rowhome flat roofs, since that is most of what Philadelphia has. Ask how long the job will take and what happens if a problem shows up after the work is done.
Repairs and Emergencies
Do you offer emergency roof repair?
Yes. We answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can usually be at your home the same day to stop an active leak.
How quickly can you get to my house?
Usually the same day for leaks and storm damage anywhere in our service area.
Should I repair or replace my roof?
If the damage is limited to one area and the rest of the roof is in good shape, a repair usually makes sense. If leaks keep coming back, the surface is cracked or blistered across the roof, or water is getting into the decking, replacement is usually the better value. See roof repair vs. roof replacement.
Who is responsible for a leak between two rowhomes?
Whoever owns the roof the water is coming from is usually responsible, which is why the first step is finding the source on both sides of the shared wall. Our guide on leaks between rowhomes walks through it.
Why is water pooling on my flat roof?
Pooling usually means the roof has sagged, the drain or scupper is blocked, or the roof was built without enough slope. Standing water speeds up wear and leads to leaks, so it is worth having us take a look. More in why water pooling on a flat roof is dangerous.
Flat Roofs and Rowhomes
What is the best flat roof material for a Philadelphia rowhome?
It depends on how you use the roof. EPDM rubber is our go-to when there is a roof deck, and we also install modified bitumen and TPO. Our flat roof page compares the options.
What is EPDM roofing?
EPDM is a durable rubber membrane used on flat roofs. It holds up well under roof decks and foot traffic, which is why it is so common on Philadelphia rowhomes. Learn more on our EPDM roofing page.
Can you replace a flat roof that has a roof deck on it?
Yes. Roof decks are everywhere in Philadelphia, and we replace the roof underneath them regularly, usually with EPDM rubber. The deck itself has to be taken down before the roof work and put back afterward by a deck builder, so plan on lining one up before your roof replacement.
How long does a rowhome roof replacement take?
Most rowhome roof replacements take one day.
Do you tear off the old roof?
Yes. On a replacement we tear off the old roofing down to the deck so we can check and fix what's underneath before the new roof goes on. More on how many roof layers to leave on.
Can you replace a roof in the winter?
Yes, as long as the weather is dry and above the minimum temperature for the material. See can you replace a roof during winter.
